When I first decided to start blogging about my craft/sewing/painting projects, I was really excited, thinking "I'll write up tutorials and I'll take pictures of all the steps and people will be able to follow along and make their own [insert project here]!" So I had some ideas in my head of what I wanted to do and write about, and when I finally sat down to write up my first post, I realized two very important things:
1. I HATE writing. My mom is an English teacher and it kills her every time I say this, but it's true. I'm not bad at it, I've been told I write well, I just don't enjoy it.
2. I don't like stopping my creative process to take pictures. I absolutely love to paint and sew; in fact, there is nothing I enjoy doing more. When I sit down at my sewing machine or with a blank canvas and a paintbrush, I put on some music or old episodes of One Tree Hill on Netflix and I get lost in whatever is in front of me--that's what I love about sewing and painting. When I have to stop and make sure the lighting is good and none of my mess is in the background (I'm not a very tidy person, especially when it comes to crafts), it sucks some of the fun out of the process.
So what do these revelations mean for my blog? Well, it means I won't be writing up long, in-depth tutorials or how-to's. I want my blogging experience to be something I enjoy, and forcing myself to write means less fun and more work. So what will I post? Pictures! And some tips and tricks and general overviews of my processes. I merely want to document the things I accomplish outside of work and school.
